Amazulu have made their ambitions for the season crystal clear, having signed an array of talented players to try and make Usuthu a competitive team after years of struggling in the lower half of the Premiership table. Their list of signings includes Siphiwe Tshabalala, Xola Mlambo, Augustine Mulenga, Luvuyo Memela, and more, with new owner Sandile Zungu splashing the cash to revamp the squad. Despite this, Amazulu sit in 11th with only one win in six DStv Premiership matches. In response to the slow start, Amazulu have parted ways with coach Ayanda Dlamini and are now being linked with a list of coaches. Former Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy seems to be the most popular choice, and former Bafana Bafana star Teko Modise agrees, stating “Benni can bring excitement to Amazulu”
In the SL Podcast’s latest episode of The Carwash Modise added, “I think everybody wants to see [Benni] back in the PSL. He makes the league interesting. People still love [him].” In the full show, Modise and former Sundowns goalie Sean Roberts debate the other candidates for the Usuthu job, which include Eric Tinkler, Owen Da Gama & Shaun Bartlett who have all recently left their previous clubs. The Carwash crew also discuss the latest PSL results and preview the MTN8 final.
