Borussia Dortmund has in recent years become a club known for developing and then selling some of Europe’s best young talent.
Recent record departures include Ousmane Dembélé, who joined FC Barcelona for £117.00m, Christian Pulisic, £57.60m to Chelsea, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who left to Arsenal for £57.38m.
Jude Bellingham, another of Dortmunds young starts already looks like he has ‘one foot out the door,’ according to analyst Kres Harrington, who was speaking on the SL Podcast’s Bundesliga Connection.
Harrington believes however that if Dortmund can get the 20-year-old Norwegian sensation, Erling Haaland, to sign an extension, some of their other rising stars might be tempted to do the same.
‘The Club is optimistic,’ Harrington reports, ‘but I think it will come down to convincing Haaland to buy into their mentality and them having to shift what they’ve been presenting to the world lately.
‘They have young talent, they then turn over that young talent and get a big return. Players seem to be using Dortmund as a launchpad.
‘I’m a firm believer that “If you lead, others will follow.” If Erhling Haaland decides to shock the continent stay at Dortmund, he could potentially turn the tide [with players like] Bellingham and Reyna.
‘Haaland will have to want that as well. If Dortmund can stay close to Bayern Munich, that gives them a better argument to convince him to stay.’
