In the latest episode of The Carwash on the SL Podcast, former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Teko Modise, describes the frustration of playing with players who were not as skilled or driven as he was.
In a conversation around Lionel Messi’s visibly negative body-language when playing alongside players that the Argentian seems to not respect, Modise made these comments: ‘With sports like this, where you rely on other people and [they] are not playing on your level, you get [affronted], and I can see Messi was doing that.’
The two-time PSL player of the Season goes on to say, ‘As a footballer, you want to win, and to win you need good players around you… I wish I was at this Orlando Pirates team right now, I could have won everything with [them]… There are more good players [there] right now than the ones that I played with.
‘Most of the time when I was playing I was very frustrated. I was enjoying [playing] in the National time, but coming back into the local game you would find a person who can’t even pass the ball five meters. The frustrations build up.’
Also on the show, Modise and co-host Sean Roberts analyse the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando pirates and look ahead to the second leg match, providing their predictions for the outcome, and much more!
