It has been over six years since the fateful night when Senzo Meyiwa’s life was taken and there is still no resolution to his case. Earlier in October this, Police Minister Bheki Cele and National Police Commissioner Khehla Sithole issued a statement saying that five suspects had been arrested in connection with the case.

Tuesday, the 10th of November 2020, saw the official unveiling of Meyiwa’s tombstone at Mayville Heroes Acre cemetery. Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki and the Bafana Bafana team were present at the unveiling.

In the wake of these developments, Teko Modise opened up about the kind of person Senzo Meyiwa was, and how it affected the football community.

‘The football fraternity were so shaken, we couldn’t believe it.’ Modise said, ‘When we heard the news, we thought it was a joke, a bad joke. When it was confirmed, all we wanted to find out was “Why?”‘

‘We lost a very very good person, a person that was alive in the dressing room, he was always alive. He never had a full moment. He was that guy, that even when you were [aggravated], he would make sure to say something funny to bring you back.’

‘It was sad to lose him the way that we did.’
