The Problem With Bafana Relying On Star Players

Are Bafana relying on star players to bail them out of poor performances? Catch the debate on the Carwash by clicking on the podcast player below!

Bafana Bafana grabbed six points in Group C of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with back to back victories over São Tomé and Príncipe on home soil, which saw them draw level with log-leader Ghana on nine points. Despite the results, many supporters were left frustrated by the side’s overall performances and were left particularly bemused by coach Molefi Ntseki’s squad selection in both fixtures.

In the latest episode of the SL Podcast’s “The Carwash”, former Bafana star Teko Modise & former PSL goalkeeper Sean Roberts question Ntseki’s decision to play Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebogang Manyama as a striker when forwards Luther Singh & Kermit Erasmus were both available for selection. They also criticise his selections in midfield, which saw Rangers star Bongani Zungu benched in the first fixture in favour of a more defensive pairing of Dean Furman & Kamohelo Mokotjo.

In the full podcast, the Carwash crew also discuss Patrice Motsepe’s decision to contest for CAF presidency and Mohammed Salah breaking COVID-19 protocol on international duty.
